Nursing Frequently Asked Questions

When can I apply?

RN admission is fall, winter and spring only. Check the application packets for current deadlines

Do you have an LPN to RN "bridge program"?

No--A formal bridge program is not offered.

Is there a time limit for pre-requisite classes?

LWTC's Nursing department enforces a 7 year time limit for science classes. Science classes more than seven years old at the time of matriculation will not satisfy requirements.

What classes get calculated in the GPA?

Only the classes required for admission. The Nursing department does not use your overall GPA. For repeated classes, the admissions committee uses the highest grade earned. Grades from CHEM&121/HS Chem. are not considered as it is not possible to calculate a high school grade at the college. Grades from Nursing Assistant classes are also not considered in the GPA.

Do I have to complete all of the prerequisites before I can apply to the Nursing Program?

Yes, all prerequisites must be completed by the end of quarter preceding the actual quarter in which you apply. Application packets that are not complete, including prerequisite classes will not be considered.

Do you keep a waiting list?

There is not a waiting list for the Nursing Program.

Is there a time-limit for the prerequisite classes?

LWTC’s Nursing department enforces a seven year time limit for science classes. Science classes more than seven years old at the time of matriculation will not satisfy requirements. There is no time limit for non-science classes.  However, it will benefit you to refresh your math and reading comprehension skills if it has been a more than a few years.

Will I be able to receive Financial Aid for classes?

All students may apply for Financial Aid, however until you are admitted to the Nursing program your options will be limited.  Students are encouraged to apply for scholarships.

Is it a day or evening program?

Nursing program classes are offered during the day only (some clinicals may be held in the evening).

 How long is the program?

Once admitted to the program, the curriculum for the Nursing program consists of six quarters of full-time professional and clinical education (infrequently, summer classes may be available). The program lasts for two years.

What are my options if I am not admitted to the program?

We advise students to apply to Nursing programs at more than one college to help increase their chances of being admitted to a program. If you are not admitted to LWTC you can meet with an adviser to find out areas you may need to improve to re-apply. The adviser can also help you look into other Allied Health professions that would fit with your interests.  You will need to notify Enrollment Services if you intend to reapply using documents, etc. used in the intial application process.

What do you need to submit for the CNA requirement?

A copy of your state Nursing Assistant certification (from any state)--must be current.

Can I substitute or waive classes or time limits based  on  experience?

You must meet with an adviser first to verify if a waiver or substitution is appropriate. A "Waiver and Substitution Form" must be presented to and approved by the LWTC Nursing Director. You will need to make an appointment to meet with the director to present your request.

Who should complete the Recommendation Forms?

For RN admission 2  recommendations are required, and at least 1 of these have to be from a college or university faculty member. The second can be from anyone who can speak to the qualities and skills evaluated on the form.

CNA certification requires a Social Security Number (SSN), what happens if I don't have a SSN?

You will need to have a SSN to complete the class. If you are an international student, contact the International Office to find out your options.

If I have more questions where do I go?

Academic Advisers are available to answer your questions. See When Can I See an Academic Adviser? for in-person availability, or contact the office by phone 425.739.8300 or email advising@lwtc.edu.
