EMT Pretest

What is the EMT Pretest?

Beginning winter quarter 2008, EMT program registration requires a pretest, application materials and instructor permission. Students must pass the pretest with 70% or better to enroll.

  • This is the same test that is used at other King County training sites and covers advanced first aid and CPR. 
  • The test has 50 questions, and applicants have 30 minutes to answer questions. (K. Urick 12.17.07)

How do I prepare for the EMT Pretest?

Most Emergency Responder Handbooks or Advanced First-Aid Study Guides will provide preparation for this exam. The American Red Cross Emergency Response handbook has been reccommended as a good study guide and may be purchased at American Red Cross.

How do I make an appointment to take the Pretest?

  • An appointments is required to take the EMT Pretest.
  • You may make an appointment to test by dropping by W204, calling the Assessment Center at 425-739-8115 or emailing us at assessmentstaff@lwtc.edu  
  • There will be no summer EMT program in 2008, However, you may test starting now for the fall EMT program.
  • You may schedule an exam on Mondays, Tuesdays or Wednesdays – with appointment times available each ½ hour starting at 8:00am and the last appointment at 3:00pm.
  • Please come to the Assessment Center in W204 at least 10 minutes prior to your appointed test time to complete sign-in procedures. 

Is There a Testing Fee for the EMT Pretest?

  • There will be no charge to take the EMT pretest during spring quarter 2008.

  • Starting July 1, 2008, there will be a $15 test fee.

What Do I Need to Bring on the Day of the EMT Pretest?

  • Government issued photo identification such as a driver's license or passport is required.
  • An LWTC Student ID number (available in Enrollment Services, W201)
  • A Scantron answer card for the test (available in the LWTC Bookstore)
  • The Assessment Center provides pencils and scratch paper.

May I Retake the Exam to Improve My Score?

  • Applicants may take the EMT Pretest once per quarter.
  • Retaking the exam for admission to the EMT program within a single quarter is not permitted.
  • Exam results are valid for one quarter's admission only.
