Health Occupations Basic Entrance Test (HOBET)

What is the HOBET Exam?

The test is a measurement of your reading ability, reading speed, and basic mathematics. Additionally, it offers some diagnostic information to admissions about your success factors in school including stress levels, test taking, and study habits. HOBET will identify any weak areas that a student may need to improve upon before succeeding in a health occupations program. It is designed to measure academic processing skills and compare them against a national average. The test is timed and takes approximately 2 hours.

Who Takes the HOBET Exam?

The HOBET is a required component of the application for admission to nursing and dental hygiene programs at Lake Washington Technical College. It is also a prerequisite for our medical assisting program.

Students applying to programs at other colleges are welcome to take the HOBET exam at LWTC. Colleges may require the HOBET exam for admission to Paramedic, Radiology or other health-related degrees or programs of study. Check with the college to which you are applying to confirm whether or not the HOBET is required.
