Health Unit Coordinator
Certificate of Completion
19 Credits
This program will provide competency in medical communication and human relationships. The student will also acquire a working knowledge of computer literacy, ethical standards, and unit coordinator skills. Students participate in realistic training in the classroom and clinical settings. Skills include transcribing physician's orders, scheduling diagnostic studies and appointments for follow-up care, ordering and maintaining supplies, and maintaining clerical and patient records. Upon completion, the student will be eligible to take the certification exam by the National Association of Health Unit Coordinators.
No student will be allowed at clinical site without proof of health insurance or the prerequisites* met. Proof of immunizations should be submitted the first week of class unless arrangements have been made with instructor. Some hospitals may require a drug screen test before the student is permitted to practice in the hospital.
It is the student's responsibility to discuss sequencing and work out their individual schedule with a counselor or adviser. Any developmental coursework a student may be required to complete may increase the program length.
Admission Dates: fall and spring quarters for the evening program, winter and summer quarters for the day program
