The Lake Washington College Foundation recently exhausted the funds raised at Sailing to Success! – Hawaii by distributing $30,000 to six new scholarship accounts. Previously the Foundation had allotted $23,681 to the Student Scholarship Emergency Fund, and now the entire net proceeds from the event of $53,681 have been distributed into student scholarship funds.

A task force, comprised of Demetra Biros, Bill Chaney, Mihaela Cosma, Doug Emory, Shelley Glendenning, Soren Hughes, Kim Infinger, Dennis Long, Dr. Shirley Metcalf, and Tim Wheeler was assembled to determine how to allocate the funds raised at the November event.  New accounts were set up by the Foundation as follows:

• I-BEST Scholarship (code 335):                                   $10,000
• STEM Scholarship Award (code 603):                         $4,000
• Adult High School Diploma Scholarship (code 300):  $1,000
• General Scholarship (code 300):                                $10,000*
  • *Including the temporarily restricted $10,100 from Bernice Tutt, this account holds a total of $20,100
• All College Staff Scholarship (code 108):                   $2,000
• WorkFirst Scholarship (code 898):                              $3,000

The Foundation bookkeeping codes have been provided in the interest of budgetary transparency and for College supporters – including employees – to make donations to these new scholarship funds. 100% of funds donated will go toward the selected scholarship.

• Full Board of Directors meetings are generally held every 4th Wednesday each month 11:15 a.m.-1:00 p.m. (with the exception of July-August). All meetings to be held in the Board Room (W305A).
