List of Scholarships
The Lake Washington College Foundation provides a variety of scholarships for students. Criteria for scholarship selection vary with each award, some based on a combination of academic performance and financial need, some based on program or life situation.
To see whether you are eligible for a College Foundation scholarship, review the following list carefully. To apply for scholarships, you must use the scholarship application form. If you need assistance in filling out the application form or have any questions regarding scholarships, please contact the Financial Aid Office at 425-739-8106.
New scholarships may be added during the application period – please check back again throughout the application period.
Please note that some scholarships have unique application forms and deadlines. For more information contact the employee listed or the Financial Aid Office.

All Programs |
Award for Excellence
$2,000 first-place award, $1,000 second-place award, $500 third-place award. Letter of recommendation from faculty member required. Must be King County resident. Award granted through the Leona Hickman Educational Trust.
Clay Denton Memorial Scholarship
In memory of longtime LWTC employee Clay Denton, one or more scholarships may be awarded. Number and value of scholarships to be determined by the Director of Financial Aid
Foundation General Scholarship
Up to five awards, ranging from $300 to $1,000, to be awarded to students enrolled in any certificate or degree program at LWTC.
Eligibility:
- Students must be enrolled at least half-time in a certificate or degree program at LWTC.2. Students must include a statement that should:demonstrate financial need by explaining their economic situation and why they need financial assistance outlining their educational goals.
- Cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 either at LWTC, high school (if a new student), or at another college if student is transferring to LWTC.Criteria for Awarding:1. Scholarships may help with the student’s overall educational needs (i.e. general living expenses, such as room and board, transportation, books or tools, child care, etc.), as well as tuition and fees.
- In determining recipients, special consideration will be given to students with exceptional need or who have overcome exceptional challenges.
- Number of students to receive the scholarship and award amounts to be decided at the discretion of the Director of Financial Aid each year.
- Students must agree to attend award ceremony or informal gathering to recognize recipient(s).
Norah N. and Gerald F. Link Endowed Scholarship
At least one scholarship to be awarded; amount to be awarded to be determined by Foundation Finance CommitteeAwarded in memory of the late Gerald F. Link, who was a member of the Foundation Board of Directors and served on the Executive Committee as Treasurer. The purpose of Link Scholarship is to provide assistance to students who demonstrate financial need and have shown academic commitment and dedication to their certificate or degree program at Lake Washington Technical College.Guidelines for Scholarship Eligibility:
- Students should be admitted into a certificate or degree program at LWTC.
- Student(s) should demonstrate financial need by a statement explaining their situation and why they need financial assistance in their application.
- Student(s) should also include a statement outlining their educational goals.
- Cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 either at LWTC, high school (if a new student), or at another college if student is transferring to LWTC.
- Be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident or otherwise eligible to reside permanently in the U.S. legally.
Criteria for Awarding:
- Consider awarding scholarships to help with the student’s overall educational needs (i.e. general living expenses, such as room and board, transportation, tools needed for program, etc.), as well as tuition and child care.
- In determining recipients, special consideration should be given to students with exceptional need or who have overcome exceptional challenges.
- Consider awarding scholarship for 2 years (for students in degree programs) contingent on student achieving a minimum cumulative GPA (i.e., 3.25) in their first year to provide incentive to achieve academically and complete their program.
- Number of students to receive the scholarship each year to be decided at the discretion of the Director of Financial Aid.
Gerald M. and Sandra J. Hughes Endowed Scholarship
At least one $1,000 award

- Students must agree to meet with Donor(s) or the Foundation at an award ceremony or informal gathering to recognize recipient(s).
Retired Employees Council Scholarship at LWTC
Criteria and Guidelines
- Student must be admitted into a certificate or degree program at LWTC
- Minimum 2.5 GPA requirement (either at LWTC or most recently attended high school or college).
- Scholarship will be awarded based on student’s need as determined by Financial Aid Administrators and Foundation Scholarship Committee
- Scholarship is available to students of all programs
- Funds can be used for any educational-related expenses
- In determining recipients, special consideration should be given to students with exceptional need or who have overcome exceptional challenges.
Windermere Foundation Award
Purpose:
To provide financial assistance to single parents seeking to increase their skill levels for better career opportunities.
Eligibility:
Full-time student currently enrolled at Lake Washington Technical College.
Criteria:
- Single parent with custody of children
- Must have completed at least one quarter of course work
- Demonstrated unmet financial need verified through financial aid process
- Maintain a cumulative and quarterly GPA of 2.5 or above and “satisfactory academic progress”
- Completed application form returned to Financial Aid by June 12, 2009.
Amount: Up to $1,500 per quarter per student. Funds will be credited to student’s account. |

BTAD |
Scholarship for Students in Bachelor of Technology in Applied Design
Description:
Up to three awards, from $500 to $1,500, to be awarded to LWTC students enrolled in the Bachelor of Technology and Applied Design program
Eligibility:
- Students must be enrolled at least half-time in the BTAD degree program at LWTC
- Students must include a statement that should:demonstrate financial need by explaining their economic situation and why they need financial assistance outlining their educational goals
- Cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 either at LWTC, or at their previous college if transferring to LWTC.
Criteria for Awarding:
- Scholarships may help with the student’s overall educational needs (i.e. general living expenses, such as room and board, transportation, child care, etc.), as well as tuition and fees.
- In determining recipients, special consideration will be given to students with exceptional need or who have overcome exceptional challenges.
- Number of students to receive the scholarship and award amounts to be decided at the discretion of the Director of Financial Aid each year.

Child Care |
Altrusa Scholarship
At least one scholarship of $1,000 award to provide financial assistance to a female student with dependent children. Funds may be used for tuition, fees, books and child care. Student must have minimum 2.0 GPA, attend at least half-time, enthusiasm for and commitment to the program in which you are enrolled, aspirations beyond college, demonstrated need, and attendance at Altrusa International of Lake Washington East dinner meeting for award presentation.
Bernice E. Tutt Award
Two $300 awards for childcare expenses for students with dependent child/children. Preference given to students with children enrolled in the LWTC Early Learning Center. Recommendation by Director of Financial Aid required.
Redmond Rotary Scholarship
One $500 award for childcare expenses for students with dependent child/children. Preference given to students with children enrolled in the LWTC Early Learning Center. Final selection to be made by Director of Financial Aid. |

Dental |
Princeton L. Co Scholarship
Four $500 scholarships for students in the Dental Hygiene program. Only first year dental hygiene students may apply. The scholarship will be applied to the student’s second year of study. A minimum 3.25 GPA is required. Recipients will demonstrate excellence in clinical aspect of dentistry as well as patient care and patient management. Education |
Kirkland Rotary Club Scholarships
Several $1,500 Rotary Service Scholarships will be awarded.
Eligibility Criteria:
· Have financial need
· Have academic promise
· Have a record of school or community service
· Currently a senior at BEST High School, International Community School, Juanita High School, lake Washington High School or Lake Washington Technical Academy graduating in 2009
· OR Currently enrolled at Lake Washington Technical College or Cascadia Community College

Engineering |
Boeing Scholarship, Engineering Graphics
Up to $1000 award for student enrolled as a full-time student in engineering graphics. Must be a citizen of the United States or have filed for citizenship. Award is for tuition, books and fees. Students who are members of diverse populations are encouraged to apply.
Eastside Community Aid Thrift Shop Engineering Graphics Award
$2000 award distributed throughout the academic year in memory of Jo Legan for a full-time student. Scholarship is open to all Engineering Graphics/Civil Engineering/Architectural Graphics and Multimedia Design and Production students with preference given to students already accepted into the BTAD. Eligible students must demonstrate academic excellence in the face of financial need. Final selection prioritized by need from Financial Aid office and submitted to Eastside Community Aid Thrift Shop for final selection. |

Environmental Horticulture |
Jim Colman Endowed Scholarship
In memory of the late Jim Colman, founder of Northwest Nurseries and longtime supporter of LWTC Environmental Horticulture Program.One full-time Environmental Horticulture student’s tuition per quarter, four quarters per year. Applicants must have completed at least one quarter in the Environmental Horticulture Program.See Environmental Horticulture faculty for application materials and more information.
Northwest Flower and Garden Show Designer Scholarships
$250 awards available to currently enrolled students who actively participated in the Flower & Garden Show.See Environmental Horticulture faculty for application materials and more information.
Eastlake Garden Club

Fitness Award
Four $250 awards for third-quarter fitness students who maintain a GPA of 2.5 or above. Primary consideration given to students who have overcome challenges to achieve academic success. I-BEST |
Purpose of I-BEST: help ESL students transition into professional-technical programsThe criteria for the I-BEST scholarship are:
- Applicants should be enrolled in I-BEST.
- Applicants need to qualify for resident tuition rate in order to qualify for this scholarship.
- I-BEST students who receive financial aid from other sources such as FAFSA, Opportunity Grant, Pell Grant, do not qualify for I-BEST scholarship.
- The I-BEST scholarship applies exclusively to tuition costs on a quarterly basis.

Johnanna Price Service Award
Two $250 awards: One for a student (full-time) and one for an LWTC staff person (full-time). Demonstrates spirit of optimism, support, presence and care recognized and reflected in the people around them. Demonstrates exceptional service that has made a difference in the life/lives of staff and students. Special considerations: Recommendation by staff or student. Application form required only for student award. |

Social and Human Services |
Eastside Community Aid Thrift Shop Human Service Award
Two $1000 awards in memory of Jo Legan for full-time Social and Human Service students. Eligible student must demonstrate academic excellence in the face of financial need. STEM |
Stem Tuition Reimbursement
STEM classes focus on the science and math skills fundamental to a wide range of careers. Complete STEM classes in two different subject areas and become eligible for tuition reimbursement up to $200.Contact STEM@lwtc.edu or your program advisor for more information. |

Lake Washington College Foundation WorkFirst Scholarship
The WorkFirst Scholarship is available to current or former LWTC WorkFirst students. The scholarship funds are for unexpected expenses which interfere with the successful completion of your program.
