Auto Repair Technician
Program Summary
Today's automobile is designed and engineered at a higher level of technology than ever before. This produces a high demand for trained repair technicians who can meet the increased technical challenges. This program prepares students for employment in automotive dealership service centers, independent repair shops, and specialty or customized shops. The auto repair technician field is rapidly changing and relies more and more on advanced knowledge–particularly in the electrical and electronics areas. As a well-trained technician with current skills, you can expect rapid employment and a steady rising income. In addition this program includes preparation for the ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification.
Auto Repair Technician AAS graduates will:
- Perform repairs on various vehicles and components
- Meet minimum competency in seven categories identified as essential for employability: adherence to policy/attendance, technical knowledge/skill application, work planning, quality of work, interpersonal skills, and oral/written communication.
- Be prepared to succeed on the ASE certification.
Any developmental coursework a student may be required to complete may increase the program length.

About the Program
Today’s automobile is more sophisticated and complex, in terms of its operation and maintenance, than ever before. Technicians are expected to possess a broad range of computer skills and the knowledge to work with high-tech diagnostic tools, which can provide them with the ability to make an accurate assessment of the repairs or maintenance required. The Auto Repair Technician Program at LWTC is leading the way in providing students the opportunity to learn in an environment that is most representative of today’s automotive repair industry. Upon completion of this program, students can expect to find numerous opportunities for employment and will possess the skills necessary to maintain their proficiency in this increasingly high-tech field.
No less important to the unique learning opportunities of this program are the instructors, who strive to insure that their students realize their fullest potential. Their background, experience, and drive to keep their own knowledge base up to date with ASE standards enables them to be able insure that students receive the highest caliber of training in an state of the art environment that represents the models of this industry. Nolan Koreski together with Don Sutherland are enthusiastic in their efforts to give students the necessary instruction that will enable make them to achieve their goals.
Students have the option of pursuing an Associate of Applied Science Degree, requiring the successful completion of six quarters and 110 -115 credits, or receiving a Certificate of Proficiency, which is comprised of five quarters and 89 credits. Which ever option you decide upon, you can expect to have the opportunity to learn from the most qualified instructors and in an environment that maintains a cutting edge representation of the models of this industry.
Transportation Department
The demand is high for competent and skilled technicians in the transportation industry, and numerous employment opportunities await the students who successfully complete any of eleven certificate or degree programs offered through LWTC’s Transportation Department. Students receive the highest caliber of training and instruction in an environment that provides a unique opportunity to learn state of the art skills. Instructors are passionate in their desire to see that their students become equipped with the tools necessary to compete for the best paying jobs in their field of learning.
The student who has successfully completed either the requirements for a certificate or a degree can expect employment opportunities to come looking for them. LWTC is widely recognized as an institution that gives its students an edge, having received their training with the most sophisticated and state of the art training methods available and from instructors who strive to insure that all of their students succeed.
The Transportation Department is comprised of five programs:
The first quarter of each of the Transportation programs is comprised of four Transportation Core classes. Once the core courses are completed, students may move on to continuing courses in their program of their choice, elect to pursue various certificate options, or a two year Associate of Applied Science Degree.
