Admissions Requirements
Once you have been accepted into a dental program you will attend a special orientation designed for your program. LWTC will notify you about that orientation.
Dental Hygiene and Expanded Duties
This program requires completion of special application for admission (PDF file) and program prerequisites.
There is a formal, competitive admissions process for entry into this program. Many more students than can be accepted into the program will apply for admission. The college will use prerequisite classes, prior educational and/or work experience, and an entrance exam (the TEAS) to determine the best candidates for the program.
The prerequisite science courses must be at least seven years current upon program entry, be measured by a proficiency examination, or be waived by special petition to the dental hygiene coordinator. ALL prerequisites must be complete by the time of application in order to apply. In progress classes will not be accepted.
Applications are accepted once per year for a Fall quarter start to the program. Packets become available in July or August for the Fall quarter of the next year (i.e., July 2009 for Fall 2010). The deadline to apply for Fall 2010 will be February 12, 2010. All submissions should be sent to LWTC Enrollment Services. Please do not contact the college to ask for status reports about this process; all applicants will be notified by letter.
Completed applications will be forwarded to an evaluation group in the dental hygiene program. The most qualified applicants will be offered an interview date in March or April. Final selection notifications will be completed by the end of April.
Students accepted into the program must enroll in seven consecutive quarters of Dental Hygiene courses, including a required summer quarter of full-time professional and clinical education. Please see the Dental Hygiene application packet for an estimate of program costs.
