About the Program

The goal the program is to prepare students to enter the job market as Massage Therapists. The American Massage Therapy Association defines Massage Therapy as "a profession in which the practitioner applies manual techniques and may apply adjunctive therapies with the intention of positively affecting the health and well-being of the client." Therapeutic massage is often used to aid in recovery from injury, to promote health and well-being, and as treatment for illness or pain. LWTC graduates will be particularly skilled at practicing in a clinical environment as part of a health provider team implementing a patient’s individualized plan of care, fitness, and /or rehabilitation.

The program will be developed in accordance with the standards and guidelines outlined by the Washington State Board of Massage and the Commission on Massage Therapy Accreditation (COMTA) and will adhere to the requirements outlined by the Washington State Department of Health, Health Professions Quality Assurance Board of Massage for curriculum components and clinical sites, in order to ensure that students will be eligible to sit for the state massage practitioners license (RCW 18.108.070) upon program completion.

All programs at LWTC aim to provide students with workplace skills that include Communication, Critical Thinking, Global and Cultural Awareness, Teamwork, and Technical and Information Literacy. Each program will include coursework used to assess student performance in these global outcomes.

The program outline is a suggested sequence of courses for this area of study. Courses listed in the program outline may not be offered in the exact sequential order. It is the student’s responsibility to work out their individual schedule with a counselor or advisor.
