Faculty Biographies
Dr. Colleen J Hewes, DC, MSN, RN
Dr. Colleen J Hewes is a full-time instructor in the Nursing program at Lake Washington Technical College. She has 30 years of experience in the healthcare field, having held staff, management, administrative, faculty and consultant positions in a variety of health care settings. She holds a bachelor's of in Nursing from Columbia Union College in Takoma Park Maryland, a Masters of Science in Nursing from Catholic University of America in Washington DC and a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Cleveland Chiropractic College in Los Angeles California.
Colleen has been a member on the review panel for the Journal for Healthcare Quality for the past 6 years. She has spoken and published in the areas of assessment of the geriatric patient, mobility issues with the older adult, and alternative health care.
Suzy Dalgarn, RN, MSN, CNE
Suzy Dalgarn has been a full-time nursing instructor at LWTC since 2000. She has 23 years experience as an educator and RN staff nurse and manager in Ambulatory healthcare settings. She earned a BSN degree from the University of Washington and a Masters of Science in Nursing from Seattle Pacific University.
Suzy has a passion for teaching and enjoys helping students learn the nursing role. She was the first in Washington state to earn the NLN Certified Nurse Educator credential. She serves on a variety of college committees and is active in the National League of Nursing. Suzy's interests are in Medical Surgical nursing and Community/Public Health. Suzy was recognized with the LWTC instructor excellence award for 2005.
Corrine Sawyer, MSN
I have been in the Nursing field over 15 years. I graduated from the University of Washington with my BSN and completed my MSN with the University of Phoenix. My specialty is Pediatrics, Neonatal Intensive Care and Med/Surg. I believe the nursing profession is a rewarding and exciting career. I look forward to instructing the future leaders in this fast-growing career field.
Roxanne Spring, MN, CNM, ARNP
Roxanne Spring is a new full time nursing instructor in the Nursing Program at Lake Washington Technical College. She brings a wealth of prior experiences serving in both private and public health sectors as a nurse, lactation specialist, and mid-level practitioner. She earned her Bachelors degree from WSU and went on to complete her Masters of Nursing at University of Washington becoming a Certified Nurse Midwife.
She has worked in private practice and/or a heath maintenance organization for over four years of full scope practice as a certified nurse midwife. She has worked an additional two years providing sexual health care with public health. She is bilingual (Spanish) which has been utilized in each of her opportunities. In addition to direct services, Roxanne has been an educator for nursing for several years, serving in both public and private, two and four year institutions.
Gail Muller
Gail Muller has been a full time instructor at LWTC since 2004. She holds a BSN from Seattle Pacific University and is currently in the University of Washington Master in Nursing program. She has experience in Correctional Nursing, Home Health, and Emergency Nursing. Her special interests are the Recovery Model in Mental Illness, policy issues around nursing autonomy, and the use of simulation in nursing education. She received the Instruction Excellence award at LWTC Winter 2005.
